Oosight™ Meta

Quantitative imaging of the ultrastructure of the spindle and multi-laminar zona pellucida

The Oosight™ Meta imaging system combines the image capture capability of the Oosight Spindle-Check system with powerful analysis tools that make quantitative, reproducible egg analysis possible. Automated Spindle Finder™ and Zona Finder™ tools automatically find and calculate mean retardance, area, and azimuthal error of the spindle and zona pellucida, respectively. All of these metrics have been shown in studies to have a correlation with clinical outcome. Enhanced reporting capabilities allow for data and images to be compiled into comprehensive reports, and also exported to external database programs. Multiple image overlay options and standard metric tools are also available. Streaming and time-lapse movie capability comes standard with Meta systems, enabling the detection and documentation of oocyte behavior over time.

The core optical components of the system include a circular polarizer and interference filter (CPIF) that fit into an open position in the condenser turret, a uniform, solid-state liquid crystal universal compensator that fits into the analyzer slot of the microscope. A scientific-grade megapixel CCD camera and powerful, intuitive imaging and analysis software complete the system.

Series of Human oocytes: first in series shows a strongly birefringent, normal barrel-shaped spindle versus the second, which has an abnormal, tri-polar spindle. The third image is of an immature human oocyte in Meiosis I showing an extruded polar body with a bisecting prominent MI spindle. Fourth and fifth in the series are MII oocytes with a normal zona architecture versus one with an abnormal architecture, respectively. Finally, an MII oocyte is shown with egg metrics identified.
